Fonziba uses her African drums for character development workshops for students through the nationwide CHARACTER COUNTS!® program. Even if your school does not participate in CHARACTER COUNTS!®, this workshop is invaluable for your students.

African hand-drumming combines individual expression with team building, thereby making it an ideal venue for CHARACTER COUNTS!® What’s more, hand-drumming is easy for students to do and loads of fun!

During the workshops, each student plays a drum while Fonziba rhythmically guides them through the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Fonziba’s hands-on approach enables students not only to understand but also to feel, on a deep level, what each of these character traits means for themselves, their friends, family, community and the world.

Fonziba offers CHARACTER COUNTS!® workshops as a full-day residency for one or more days. Throughout the day, Fonsiba works with individual classes so that each student has a chance to play a drum and go deeply into the pillars of character. In order to reach more students, two classes at a time can attend each session. In this case, one class observes for the first half of the session and then switches with the other class and drums for the second half. The observing class is kept actively involved by participating in all discussions.

The optimal length for each session is sixty minutes. Though shorter sessions are possible, one hour allows the class to cover all the pillars and the students are enjoying themselves so much that the time passes quickly. Fonziba conducts five-seven sessions per day and can thus work with 125-350 students, depending on whether she meets with one or two classes at a time.

Cost: $500 per day (plus travel expenses)
Additional days: $350 per day, $1,800 per week

* Fonziba can tailor her programs to fit your school’s needs and budget.
